Panthers Claw Points From Giants In Nottingham
The Stena Line Belfast Giants fell to two late Nottingham Panthers goals and a 4-3 loss at the National Ice Centre. Despite leading 3-2 going into the third period – two goals inside 24 seconds saw the Panthers take the win and move above the Giants into first place in the Elite League.
The Giants scored first with a powerplay goal after 7.24 with Kris Beech firing the puck past Miika Wiikman in the Nottingham net. Soon after, the Giants were on the powerplay again – however it was the Panthers who would benefit as Lachowicz scored shorthanded at 11:12. Then Cam Janssen and Adam Keefe dropped the gloves for a centre ice battle – an even affair.
The visitors drew first blood in the second period after 21.40 as Mike Radja let fly with a wrist shot into the roof of the net.
After 31.21 it was 2-2 with David Ling’s deflected snapshot ending up in the Giants net. Although, soon after Ling took a Match penalty for a kneeing incident on Darryl Lloyd.
Following the penalty, the Giants regained the lead as Beech rounded Wikman on a breakaway to make it 3-2 after 36:13.
With the clock counting down, the Panthers turned up the heat and scored twice in 24 seconds. First, through Betteridge’s low shot at 48:24 and then Mosey at 48.48 as the home side moved into top spot.
