Oxford City Stars – Statement
Last night we were informed that the planned league set up, agreed at the EIHA’s league meeting two weeks ago, will now not be proceeding due to a number of other teams requesting to drop from the agreed NIHL1 conference system into NIHL2.
Oxford had agreed to play at the new NIHL1 level, in the agreed and unanimously voted on structure. This is now in turmoil.
The information we have received from the EIHA is that NIHL1 would now be a single league meaning additional travel, and matches across the season, added into this the increasing pressure of the financial resources of ex PIHL teams, the board of Oxford City Stars is unable to commit at this time to the extra funding required.
We wanted to stand together will all NIHL teams from last season, but as those teams have now started to withdraw it is clear a new structure is needed.
We are disappointed and dismayed that planning is once again on hold. We are fully committed to Ice Hockey in Oxford but will not put the club at risk by pushing beyond our means.
Both Russell and James are devastated with this new situation and are busy discussing next steps with all involved.
