Streatham Redskins are pleased to announce the return of hard working Slovakian import Michal Oravec to the team for the 2013/14 season.

The 32 year old filled the vacant import slot in the latter half of last season following the departure of Tomas Valko in October.

After making his senior debut for HKM Zvolen in his native Slovakia back in 1998, Oravec continued to play senior hockey in his native Slovakia before moving to Serbia where he iced for Vojvodina Novi Sad.

His first experience of British hockey came in 2005/06 in the English Premier League when he appeared 17 times for West Midlands club Solihull Barons alongside Redskins player Phil Manny before returning to play in his homeland for HC Detva.

Oravec slotted in perfectly on the Redskins second line and was a key component in the upturn in fortunes the team experienced in the second half of the season.

Oravec scored six times in eleven league appearances and followed that up with three goals over the play-off quarter final two legged loss to Wightlink.

Popular in the locker room with the Streatham boys, Oravec earned the nickname Mr Burns thanks to an uncanny likeness to the power station boss of the same name in hit US comedy series ‘The Simpsons’.

He joins new signing Sean Scarbrough as the other half of the Redskins import line up for 2013/14.

DSC_7032-2-2“Michal was our best player in the play-off against Wightlink, maybe the best player on the ice, but if not the most effective” said Head Coach Warren Rost.

“He’s quite happy to work hard shift after shift even if it’s his line mates that are benefitting and grabbing the headlines”

“He came to us half way through the season and playing catch up all season is a tough thing to do and know it didn’t allow him to show us what he could really do”

“After his final weekend performances he was always on the list.  Working with him all season is going to be good for us all”

You can own and loan Michal’s home jersey this season for only £50. Your name will be displayed on the jersey all season and you get to keep it at the end of the campaign. If you are interested in getting a part of Streatham history, please email gdanger@christies.com

The jerseys for Sean Scarbrough, Joe Allen and Steven Fisher are also available, so send your email to the address above as soon as you can.
