No Room for Error from Elder

BILLINGHAM STARS tonight unveils the latest addition to the 2015-2016 squad, and a not insignificant one as last season’s top goalscorer Michael Elder signs on for his fifth season in a Stars jersey.

22-year-old Elder had a vintage season last time out, especially after Christmas as he and his ‘Barcelona’ linemates found their rhythm and started an ultimately successful push to make the play-offs. Mikey’s blistering form saw him pip Canadian Thomas Stuart-Dant in the goals scored column and he almost swept the board at the end-of-season presentation night, taking three awards in total.

Mikey shares his teammates’ optimism for the campaign ahead, but knows it will be tough against stronger opposition:

“Last season came down to inconsistency I think. Unfortunately this year I don’t think there will be any room for error and we will have to be 100% confident in our own ability that we can defeat any team in the league on any given night. I’m sure everyone’s aware that teams around us have only got stronger which makes for a more exciting league.

Getting beat on penalty shots in the 2013-14 season and losing out in the final last year only fuels the desire to bring trophies back to Billingham, as I’m sure the memories of the 2011-12 season double is still lingering in everyone’s minds.

For me personally the key to last season was staying healthy along with my linemates. We found some form last year and we were going into every game knowing we could cause other teams problems. Hopefully it can be much of the same this year. Personal accolades are always nice to get but the ultimate goal is the win the league and playoffs and I’m sure I share the same ambition as the rest of the team.

I’m looking forward to getting back on the ice with the team and getting the new campaign underway.”

As ever we are asking for your help on all fronts ahead of the new season – sponsors, investment, game day volunteers, even just ideas – again if you feel you have something to offer, contact Allen on the same email as above.
