NIHL: weekend preview for September 21/22

It’s the first full weekend of the new Tier 2 competition, with a bumper programme of fixtures. Swindon Wildcats get things underway on Saturday with the visit of Raiders to Link Centre (6.15pm), while Bracknell Bees and Peterborough Phantoms clash at JNLC at the same time. Basingstoke Bison welcome Telford Tigers to Hampshire for 6.30pm puck drop, before Milton Keynes Lightning and Hull Pirates lock horns for the third time in quick succession at 7pm.
Sunday’s action has league leaders Sheffield Steeldogs host MK Lightning at 4.30pm and Raiders bring Basingstoke Bison to Sapphire Ice at 5.15pm. Peterborough Phantoms and Bracknell Bees complete their home and home series at Bretton with a 5.30pm faceoff, before Hull Pirates entertain Swindon Wildcats at the most versatile arena (5.30pm).
Solent Devils make their seasonal debut in South 1 on Saturday, Chelmsford Chieftains the visitors to Gosport (5.00pm). Raiders 2 face off against Invicta Dynamos (5.15pm) and Slough Jets bring Cardiff Fire to the Hangar for a 5.45pm start. In South 2 West, Bristol Pitbulls go against Swindon Wildcats 2 with face off at 5pm.
Sunday’s southern schedule has Invicta Dynamos hosting Slough Jets at Gillingham (5.15pm), while Solent Devils make a trip to Cardiff Fire (6pm). Oxford City Stars will try to avoid giving their visitors a five goal head start this week, Streatham the guests at Oxpens for 6.15pm start. Chelmsford Chieftains host Raiders 2 (6.30pm) before MK Thunder complete the full card with a home game against Bracknell Hornets (6.45pm). Cardiff’s Viola Arena is hosting a Fire-Devils double bill as the South 2 West Cardiff Fire v Solent Devils faces off at 2pm ahead to the D1 clash of the same teams. South 2 East has just one game on the list, Streatham Hawks hosting Haringey Huskies at 6.30pm
The North and Midland Cup competitions make a bow this weekend along with league play in both Moralee and Laidler.
On Saturday, Solway Sharks and Whitley Warriors meet in Dumfries (7pm) as the North Cup gets underway. Dundee Comets play NIHL opposition for the first time as Billingham Stars head to the DIA also for 7pm start. The Midland Cup sees Sutton Sting welcome Blackburn Hawks to Ice Sheffield for 7.30pm face off. League play on Saturday is in North 2 as first Bradford Bulldogs take on Dragons (4.45pm), Hull Jets face Blackburn Hawks 2 (5.15pm) before Telford Tigers 2 play Sheffield Senators at 7.15pm.
Sunday’s timetable sees Moralee North 1 league play as Whitley Warriors host Sutton Sting at Hillheads (5pm). There’s an all-Scottish clash in the North Cup as Murrayfield Racers play Dundee Comets at 5.30pm, while Billingham Stars welcome Solway Sharks at the Forum (6.30pm). The Midland Cup sees Blackburn Hawks take on Widnes Wild (6pm) and Nottingham Lions go head to head with Solihull Barons (7.30pm). North 2 league action has Altincham Aces going up against Bradford Bulldogs (5.30pm) and Dragons bring Telford Tigers 2 to Deeside for a 5.45pm start.
