New Role For Lovell As Wild Duo Sign For The Dragons
New roll for Lovell plus two new signings!
Marc Lovell returns to The Dragons and after a conversation with head coach Scott McKenzie, he’ll be joining him as part for his coaching staff in an assistant coaching role.
Lovell has been an important part of the Dragons since rejoining his local club after several seasons playing Elite hockey in Manchester then EPL with Telford, his experience will be invaluable after securing promotion last season.
Joining Lovell are two new signings that are making the short Journey from local rivals the Widness Wild, Geoff Wigglesworth and Chris Gee.
Wigglesworth had an outstanding season last time out scoring 34 goals from 28 appearances and 57 points in total, also scoring a goal in the Moralee Conference in a one off appearance for Solihull Barons.
Before joining the Wild during the 2013/14 season Wigglesworth was playing in the NIHL top flight for the Altrincham Aces so brings valuable experience to the Dragons as they face their inaugural season in the Moralee Conference.
Former Aces and Harrogate player Chris Gee is the Dragons 3rd signing and also joins from the Wild. Chris spent a year in Canada playing for Da Byes in the division one, Calgary Men’s Hockey Association (CMHA) league, before returning to the UK and the Wild.
Coach Mckenzie had this to say about his first 3 Signings.
‘My first appointment that I wanted to make was Assistant Coach. To me this is the most important role for me personally as I need to have a good croup of people around me to make sure that I make the right decisions at key moments. For me there was one stand out for this position, Marc Lovell. He is a veteran guy that has lead this team as Captain for a number of years and really wears his heart on his sleeve. He is committed, calm and hard working and I feel like he is the right guy for the job. Although both of us will be playing, I don’t feel like this will cause a problem but merely enhance our structure as we will both have different perspectives of the game as well as having a yet to be names bench coach behind us. I am excited to work with Marc and look forward to the next chapter of his career too.
Geoff and Chris were two stand out players for me last season. Geoff finished in the top 5 point scorers last season and I played alongside him all year. He is a leader, works extremely hard and gives everything to the team. I am confident that he will put up decent numbers for the dragons this season. Chris is a Defenceman that is admittedly still learning the game but is totally committed to doing so. He is in great shape, is young, willing to learn and again, like Geoff is committed to the ‘Team first’ mindset that we will build amongst the Dragons. I am really glad that Chris and Geoff have decided to join the Dragons, they are sure to become fan favorites in no time’.
