Netminders Added to Hawks Roster

The Full 9 Yards sponsored Blackburn Hawks are pleased to announce the signing of 2 further netminders for the 2018/19 season, the return of Stuart Ashton and new signing of GB Junior international Harrison Walker complimenting Niks Trapans between the pipes.

The ever-popular Stuart Ashton returns for his eighth consecutive season in a Hawks jersey.

The 26-year-old, Leyland born goalie stands 5ft 9 inches tall and weighs in at 148lbs and played his junior hockey in 2003 and 2004 for Blackburn Eagles and Firehawks under 16 teams.

He first played for Blackburn ENL side in 2011 and with the exception of 1 game for Widnes Wild in 2014 has stood between the pipes for the Hawks ever since.

In 2014-15 he was voted NIHL North best netminder and picked up NIHL North Championship and Play off Winners medals then doubled up his medal count the next season with a repeat.

Stuart had this to say about his re-signing.

“I am really pleased to be back for another season, it great to see the squad coming together. and I am confident we will have a competitive team”

Our second signing is Bradford born, Harrison Walker who is seen a great prospect for a flourishing senior career in the years ahead. Harrison last week attended the EIHL Glasgow Clans training camp and Clan Head Coach Peter Russell was very impressed with what he saw on the ice.

Harrison, first stepped onto the ice at the tender age of 2, the 17 year old has played all his career in the excellent Bradford Bulldogs junior set up. He has also been a regular participant in the North Conference tournament representing the Northern Conference at under 11, 13, 15 and 17 age groups, He has also represented Team England twice and GB Under 16 in a tournament in Dumfries in 2016-17.

Last season Harrison played 18 times for the Bulldogs under 18 team with a save percentage of 0.885 in a difficult season for the team. He also played 5 games in the North U17 conference tournament with a save percentage of 0.905.

Harrison said,

”I am really looking forward to joining up with the Hawks for this season and continuing to develop and learn my trade”.

Assistant Coach James Neil commented,

“With the addition of Stuart and Harrison as well as Niks between the pipes this season, we have three capable goalies who can win us a game on any given night. It provides good competition and should bring out the best in all three of them. Our aim this season is to be better defensively and that starts from your goaltender. With three players fighting for one position this can only bring out the best.”
