Murphy, Shields & Sandrock Return For 2013/14 Season

At tonight’s exclusive Season Ticket Holders’ event, hosted in W5, the Belfast Giants announced a trio of signings from last year’s team. Goaltender Stephen Murphy, Forward Colin Shields and Defenceman Robby Sandrock have all put pen to paper for another season in Belfast.

Murphy, 31, has been with the Belfast Giants since 2009 and his outstanding performances in backstopping the Giants to two championships have secured Murphy as a fans favourite amongst the Giants fan base. Murphy’s greatest hour as a Giant undoubtedly came when he won his first Elite League Championship in 2012 and he carried his form into the 2012/13 Season, posting a .914 save percentage and finished the season on a high with an amazing display in the Playoff Final.

Colin Shields is currently in his third spell as a Giant following his mid-season return to Belfast in 2012. In his years in Belfast, Colin has won four championships with the Giants including captaining his team to the Playoff Championship in 2010. A regular for the Great Britain national team, Colin is the leading scorer in franchise history.

Robby Sandrock, who returned for his second term in Belfast in 2012 following a ten year gap, will ice in the 2013/14 Season for his third season overall as a Giant. Last season Robby was selected in the Elite League’s Second All Star team following 16 goals and 27 assists in 47 games played for the Giants. His rocket of a shot makes him one of the most dangerous defencemen on the powerplay in the league.

“We have the nucleus of our team back next season and tonight was about giving our season ticket holders some exclusive news that we new they would be very excited about.” explained General Manager Todd Kelman.
