Motte blanks Storm
American netminder C.J. Motte blanked the Manchester Storm by stopping 31 shots to help the Genting Casino Coventry Blaze to a 4-0 victory at the Skydome Arena on Sunday night.
In the absence of Jordan Hedley, Motte was backed up by Blaze academy product William Bray whilst Johnny Curran returned to the line-up after missing the game in Fife the night previous.
Despite arriving home from Scotland in the early hours, Coventry got off to a strong start and took a 1-0 lead at 4.37 when Matt Pohlkamp registered for 1-0 on the powerplay.
It was 2-0 on 22.39 when the in-form Evan Bloodoff fired home his 18th goal of the Elite League season, again on the man advantage.
With his second strike of the weekend Justin Hache made it 3-0 at 35.54 before the league’s top goal-scorer Luke Ferrara wrapped up a convincing 4-0 victory for the Blaze (42.30).
Head Coach Danny Stewart said, “I am really happy. It was a tricky weekend making the journey up to Fife and getting back at 5 in the morning but I was really pleased with the performance. For the most part we limited their chances and our powerplay and penalty-kill were good which was probably the difference this weekend.”
