Miller’s time for reckoning at Coventry play-offs

Tigers forward Joe Miller is refusing to look beyond Saturday’s semi-final battle with Peterborough Phantoms at the Coventry play-off tournament.

Telford are hot favourites to secure a place in Sunday’s final, after beating Peterborough four times out of six during the regular season.

But with a capacity crowd at the Skydome on Saturday – many of whom will be supporting ‘anyone but Telford’ – Miller is expecting a much tougher encounter.

He said: “On Saturday, it’s either your season goes on until the next day, or the summer begins there and then. We don’t want to think about either of those options.

“We’ll go into the Peterborough game looking to win. That game is our priority at the moment, and we’re not stressing about Sunday right now.

“Of course, Saturday is a big match, but nothing changes. We won’t play any differently to the way we’ve done throughout the season. They guys will leave it all out on the ice. We’ve got 60 minutes to make the final.”

Miller has been a winner at Coventry in the past, but is keen to improve on his record during the biggest weekend on the English Premier League calendar.

“I think it will be a great atmosphere and the whole weekend is a party for the fans,” he said.

“Obviously for the players, it is a big weekend and hopefully I can improve on my record. I’ve played here three times and only won once, so I want to get another title under my belt.”

Last weekend’s quarter-final saw Telford gain plaudits for a mature performance against a physical Steeldogs outfit.

And Miller expects the momentum from those games to continue into Coventry.

He added: “We got through the Sheffield play-off matches, but it was tough. They tried to rattle our cages a bit, but the fact that we didn’t rise to anything will stand us in good stead for this weekend.

“All the players are really excited and ready to go.”
