Mike Brabon joins coaching staff
Former Elite League/EPL and NIHL goalie Mike Brabon joins Cardiff Fire as goalie coach and will be present in both NIHL 1 and 2 among the coaching staff in practice and game days.
Brabon came through the Cardiff junior programme and played his first mins in the Elite League age just 20. Brabon went on to play mins in 29 games in the top level in the UK.
Brabs left Cardiff for the EPL, starting for teams including Swindon Wildcats, Solihull Barons, Romford Raiders, Wightlink Raiders and Telford Tigers. It was in 2009 Mike joined Mark Cuddihy in the ENL/NIHL and was to spend 6 years as starting netminder. In Mike’s fist year back in Cardiff saw he club reach the best finish in its history, ending as runners up missing out on the league title by just a few points.
Mike left Cardiff for the London Raiders in 2014 and then returned home with the formation of Cardiff Fire.
He joined Cardiff Fire as a goalie/assistant coach and is no stranger to coaching goalies having spent time in North American goalie camps coaching young goalies alongside former Devils goalie Peter Aubrey.
Mark Cuddihy added “I’m really pleased we have Brabs back, his experience as a player in all leagues in the UK you cant just learn. We are keen to improve in all areas, bringing in Mike and Sam Motton will help all our players reach their potential. These are key areas that hockey coaches need help, so we need that experience in the coaching staff.
We hope to have young goalies involved in our set up moving forwards and Brabs will be crucial to their development from the 3rd to the 2nd tier. Brabs has good all round hockey knowledge and will add a great deal in all areas. He’s been in hockey a very long time and he’s someone I know and trust very well”
