MATCH REPORT: Eagles 6 – 4 Wild
Wild were shocked by both their weekend opponents.
On Saturday in Blackburn, Widnes struggled to find a rhythm and it wasnt until the 16th minute that they took a lead through Bobby Caunce after good work from Filip Supa and Ben Simister. A minute later, they increased their lead through Supa, Ben Brown assisting. Widnes appeared to be taking control, but as the interval approached Blackburn came back into the game when a speculative shot beat an unsighted Tom McDonald . Blackburn introduced England junior Myles Dacres in the 2nd period and the team grew in confidence. Widnes restored a two goal lead by the 29th minute, with goals from Chris Preston assisted by Kurtis Hall and a fine breakaway goal from Supa set up by a searching pass from Troy Evans. Matt Watts went to the dressing room with a dislocated shoulder and before the second interval, Myles Dacres had scored for Blackburn.
The final period saw the home side grow in confidence, frustrating Widnes attacks and hitting effectively on the break. They scored three goals within five minutes at the start of the third period and despite desperate Widnes attack they could not penetrate an enthusiastic Blackburn defence. Chris Preston took the MVP for Wild for a hardworking and combative performance.
