Match Preview: Widnes Wild v Sheffield Senators – Sunday 13th October
The RTL sponsored Widnes Wild be hoping to get back to winning ways after experiencing their first defeat of the season last weekend as they entertain Sheffield Senators in the NIHL North Laidler Conference at Silver Blades Widnes this Sunday.
It will be an interesting encounter, to say the least, as the Wild player coach Ollie Barron and fellow Widnes players Will Barron, Andrew Turner, Nick Manning, Matt Croyle, Michael Mawer and Stuart Brittle all played in Sheffield last season before the Moralee Conference Spartans team were forced out of existence during the summer.
The Senators also boast several former Spartans on their roster as Elliott Knell, Steve Weeks and Shaun Wild all joined the N2 team when they found themselves without a club. Another Sheffield based player – George Crawshaw – who played some 50 games for Widnes over the past two seasons has also joined the Senators in what looks to be quite a competitive line up.
The Senators had a terrible time last season as they lost all of their games in the Moralee Conference and were relegated back to the Laidler after finishing rock bottom of the league table.
They have made a solid start to the season winning 3 of their first 4 games – including an impressive 3-4 win away at Nottingham Lions – and currently sit 4th in the Laidler Conference table, just two points behind Widnes.
The RTL Widnes Wild face Sheffield Senators this Sunday 16th October 2016 at Silver Blades Widnes. Face off is 5.30pm and doors open at 4.45.
