Mark Motivated for Silverware

BILLINGHAM STARS have retained the netminding duo that has served them so well with the re-signing today of Mark Watson.

21-year-old Watson has been working in tandem with James Flavell for a few seasons now, a policy that seems to drive both players to do better for the team. Last year saw Mark put in a number of Man-of-the-Match performances, most notably a heroic turn between the pipes at Blackburn in March that helped the Stars push the League champions all the way. Watto’s return means the Stars will have the luxury of two solid, dependable goalies for the coming campaign.

Mark is relishing the challenge that an improved League competition offers and is keen to return to winning trophies:

“Last season as a team I thought at times we were quite inconsistent which cost us. However, on the whole, I think we did well to finish second to a very strong Blackburn side and pushed them close on more than one occasion. I really enjoyed playing alongside Flav, I think we bring the best out of each other and I’m sure we can do the same this year.

As for this season, on a personal note I’m hoping to keep improving my game and build on my performances from last season. I’m still young so I feel there is still more to come! The main aim is to win some trophies. Its my fifth season as a Star, that 2011-12 season where we won the double seems a long time ago now. I’m sure everyone on the team is just as motivated as I am to bring home some silverware this year. It’s certainly not going to be easy, the League keeps getting better and better, with every team this year looking like they’re going to have a strong squad. But if we keep working hard and show more consistency throughout the year, I don’t see why we shouldn’t be up there.”

As ever we are asking for your help on all fronts ahead of the new season – sponsors, investment, game day volunteers, even just ideas – again if you feel you have something to offer, contact Allen on the same email as above.
