Manchester Storm have added to their roster with the signing of NHL draft pick defenceman Paul Phillips.

The 23-year-old American was drafted in the seventh round by Chicago Blackhawks in 2009.

Phillips played college hockey for the University of Denver, before joining Colorado Eagles in the East Coast Hockey League in season 2013-14.

The 6 foot 1 d-man made the move to Europe last season and played 43 games for Norwegian side Lillehammer.

Storm player-coach, Omar Pacha, said: “We are delighted to have secured Paul for the season ahead.

“He is a mobile defenceman who can make a difference at both ends of the ice.

“Paul has good hockey sense and makes good decisions on the puck, which is vital on the transition.

“He has strong leadership characteristics and was captain of one of the top college programs in University Denver.

“During the last year he has developed his offensive game further and plays with real confidence on the puck.

“Paul is another strong addition to our group and we have no doubt he will bring a lot to our franchise on and off the ice.”
