Mahoney & Carr return

426149_10200706648889162_623400503_nStreatham Redskins are pleased to announce the return of defensive pair Adam Mahoney and David Carr to the line-up for 2013/14.

Mahoney joined the Redskins in 2011 after a number of seasons away from the game but has shone in his two seasons with the team. A former junior at Basingstoke with the Junior Bison and then the ENL Basingstoke Buffalo side, Mahoney learnt his trade amongst some of the UK’s best young talent.

Last season was arguably his most impressive season in a Redskins jersey as the 24 year old cemented a place on the first line alongside Dom Hopkins to good affect and appeared 35 times.

A smooth skating and attack minded defenceman; Mahoney (above right) was also used in a more advanced role on the powerplay at times last season as he showed a versatility to his game. With good stickhandling and a strong shot, Mahoney is also adept at transitioning the puck quickly on the breakout which he uses to good effect.

“We were lucky to pick Adam up when he moved into the area” explained Head Coach Warren Rost on Mahoney’s move from Basingstoke to London.

“There’s a lot of work that goes on before the headline acts get the glory and that’s what we get from Adam”

“His partnership with Dom is a cornerstone of our success and without that we would simply be a worse team.  Having that defensive stability allows us to move forward and create chances without constantly conceding goals”

Also returning to the line-up is fellow defenseman David Carr, who will ice in his fifth consecutive season with Streatham. Originally joining the club in 2009 following a brief spell with the Haringey Greyhounds, Carr reached the 100 appearance mark for the team towards the back end of last season.

Learning the game within the Durham and then Sunderland junior system, Carr (below left) went on to play senior hockey for Billingham before a move south into the EPL with Haringey. Two long spells with Oxford City Stars interrupted by a brief spell at Haringey followed and Carr also appeared for the University of London in 2005/06.

DSC_3306-2Now settled in South London with Streatham, Carr last year travelled to the World Pond Hockey Championships to play for London Devils and also writes a regular column for the Pro Hockey News website.

“Carrsy learnt his hockey in the North East and they know what they are doing up there” said Rost upon signing the 33 year old.

“He goes about his business without any fuss or petulance; he gets the puck, he moves it forward and makes sure he gets himself in the right place at the right time”

“When you can do that the game is simple, the fact is not everyone can do that. He is good in the room and will continue to be Alternate Captain again this coming season”

Adam Mahoney will wear number 7 and David Carr will wear number 2 this season and you can have your name on either jersey, then keep it at the end of the season thanks to our own and loan scheme.
