Mackriel targets long-term success at Tigers NIHL

Telford Tigers NIHL coach Daniel Mackriel wants to use last season’s sixth-placed finish as a springboard for long-term success at the Moralee Conference outfit.

Mackriel was unveiled as the club’s new head coach this week, with General Manager Mike Washburn keen to make a lasting impression in the league next season.

The former Telford junior guided Blackburn Hawks to the Moralee league title and play-off title last season, completing a lengthy period of success in Lancashire.

And with his return to Shropshire now complete, the new Tigers NIHL chief is looking to continue the development of a squad that impressed at the higher level last season.

He said: “The NIHL team last year performed well for their first season in Division One and surprised a few teams. If we can improve and build on that, then next season will be a good start to our long-term plan.

“We want to keep the core group at Telford together and also progress our junior players. We are of course also in discussions with new players who have shown an interest in joining Telford.”

MacKriel’s partnership with Washburn will also see the pair build on the club’s successful partnership with Telford’s senior English Premier League organisation.

He added: “I’m delighted and excited to be back at home in Telford after spending some time away. The challenge presented is different, new and something that as a club we can really transform.

“I’ve worked with Mike on numerous occasions in juniors at Telford and also at a Regional Conference level. It’s good to have someone who thinks along the same lines as you.

“I enjoyed every minute of my time at Blackburn Hawks, and I want to thank everybody who helped me during my years with them. I am looking forward to facing them in the league!”

Any players that are interested in joining Telford Tigers NIHL should email as soon as possible.
