Lundin and Waller return
19-Year-old Great Britain Under 20 forward Joshua Waller will return to the Flames line up for a 2nd season as will the longest serving active player with the club, Defenceman Jez Lundin who will stick around for his 11th term under Spectrum lights.
2018-2019, the Patton Conference winning run, was Waller’s first in full time senior competition. The 5’10”, 160lb skater iced 69 times while scoring 2 goals and 10 points. At the mid season World Under 20 championships, the native of Reading had 5 goals and 4 assists in 5 starts. Between Under 18 and 20, Waller has 15 caps over 3 tournaments.
Lundin, 6’0”, 200lbs, joined the side in 2009-2010 and his 616 games is 4th on the club’s all-time appearance list. The American born, British trained, blue liner had 3 goals and 17 points across 72 starts last season to bring his Flames career totals to 92 goals and 356 points.
Including his early senior career start with Newcastle Vipers, the 31-year-old has 255 Elite League games to his credit, along with 12 goals and 40 assists.
The former under 18 and 20 GB International opened his Spectrum residence as part of the Premier Cup winning team. That was his first of 9 trophies including the most recent Patton Conference win, the 2010-2011 playoffs, back to back League-Cup “doubles” across 2011-2012 and 2012-2013 as well as the 2015-2016 Cup-Playoff “double”.
“Joshua forced us to give him more ice time last season as the year went on because of the way he played,” said Head Coach Paul Dixon. “He not only earned the opportunity to come back, but the chance to play in a more prominent role that will increase his, and the club’s, contribution expectations.”
“He is a skilled player and a good skater, and it will be exciting to have a chance to watch his continued progression with us.”
“As for Jez, what more can you say about a guy who has pulled the shirt on more than 600 times over the years? He will take on any role we ask if it will help this team have success. He works hard, takes care of his fitness and he goes out there ready to compete.”
“This is a couple of guys at very different points in their careers, but as a club we are looking forward to seeing both of them back in the line up when the new season gets underway.”
