Lovell Takes The Reins For Dragons
Marc Lovell will again take the reins as captain of The Dragons next season, after signing a one-year extension to his contract at Chester Road.
The 33-year-old utility man led Deeside to fifth place in the Laidler Conference last season, including a four-game winning streak at the end of the year.He rejoins The Dragons for his third successive campaign as captain, with Red Hockey having recently completed a takeover of the Flintshire outfit. And for Head Coach Lol Paul, the return of such an influential figure will prove vital, as he prepares for the club’s first season under new owners. He said: “Marc is a true leader for us and I couldn’t imagine anyone else taking the  captain’s armband from him for next season. He has been a virtual ever-present for The Dragons since 2008, so he’s got this club at his heart.“There are, of course, going to be some new players coming into the squad, so having a familiar face, both on and off the ice, will be incredibly important.
“On saying that, the players who were here last season have a huge amount of respect for Marc, as do I. That made it a very easy decision to bring him back.â€
Marc’s career away from Deeside has seen him appear in the Elite League for Manchester Phoenix, while also enjoying several spells at Telford Tigers.
That record is likely to make him a key part of The Dragons line-up next season, as they look to fulfill heightened expectations.
Paul added: “As well as being a great leader, Marc is also a very important points scorer. He collected 33 points in just 30 games last year, which marks him out as an important part of our armoury.
“The Laidler Conference will be very competitive next season, with teams like Widnes having made improvements over the summer.
“That means we must have this squad firing on all cylinders from the first puck drop. Marc will be at the very heart of our efforts.â€â€‹
