Lightning Strike Giants With Sunday Away Win
The Stena Line Belfast Giants fell to a game winning goal with 38 seconds remaining as Milton Keynes Lightning won 5-4 in Belfast. Despite falling 2-0 behind after 4:35 the Giants responded well to lead twice, however the visitors pegged the home side back and stole the victory with the late winner.
Lighting Strikes Twice In Opening Period
The Lightning struck first when Christian Isackson scored shorthanded at 2:08, assisted by Francis Verreault-Paul. Lewis Hook doubled the visitors’ advantage at 4:35 with a powerplay goal when he finished off Kevin King’s rebound.
Brendan Connolly cut the MK lead in half when he finished off his own nice move in the visitors zone. Connolly skated the puck into the zone, and combined well with Jonathan Ferland to score at the back post at 5:08.
Giants Middle Period Double
Darcy Murphy grabbed the equalising goal for the hosts, firing low past Pacl, assisted by David Rutherford at 26:20. Rutherford then turned from provider into scorer at 35:59 with a powerplay goal, assisted by Brendan Connolly.
Lightning Downs Giants With Late Winner
Christian Isackson equalised for the Lightning with a powerplay strike at 46:55, assisted by Paul Phillips and Denny Kearney.
Spiro Goulakos gave the Giants a 4-3 lead at 47:35 with a cannon of a slapshot, assisted by Brendan Connolly. Guillaume Doucet brought the scores level once again with another Lightning powerplay strike, unassisted at 49:39.
There was late drama in Belfast as Francis Verreault-Paul scored the game winning goal with only 38 seconds remaining to claim the away victory.
