Late Powerplay Goal Defeats Giants Against Panthers
The Stena Line Belfast Giants fell to a 3-2 defeat on Saturday against the Nottingham Panthers at The SSE Arena, Belfast. The loss sees the Panthers move to five points clear of the Giants, who remain in third place.
The visitors opened the scoring at 15:16 thanks to Steve Lee, assisted by David Clarke and David Ling, as the Panthers took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission.
The Giants opened their scoring account in the second period as James Desmarais fired in his tenth goal of the season with a powerplay strike at 24:34. However the visitors regained the lead shortly after, this time Jeff Dimmen scored his second in as many nights to keep Nottingham ahead moving into the final period.

The home side had the momentum in the latter stages of the game, however it was the Nottingham Panthers who scored the game winning goal at 51:25 through Juraj Kolnik’s 5-on-3 effort with Referee Hogarth penalising both Chris Higgins and Kris Beech.
The Giants will return to action next weekend with back-to-back road games against Manchester Storm on Saturday and on Sunday against Sheffield Steelers.
