Last seasons Bees leading British scorer returns

The Bracknell Bees are pleased to announce that 26 year old forward Alex Barker has agreed a return to the Bees squad for the upcoming 2017-18 National Ice Hockey League (NIHL) Division 1 South season.

The Ascot born forward returns to the Bees for a third consecutive season, having also been part of the Bees side previously from 2008 through to 2012.

Barker started his senior hockey career with the Bracknell Stingers (u16), Drones (u19) and Hornets (ENIHL) before making his senior debut with the Bees during the 2008 season. Going on to spend three more seasons in Bracknell with both the Hornets and Bees, winning an ENIHL South League Championship with the Hornets in 2009/10 before joining the Bees full time in 2010.

At the start of the 2012/13 season Barker moved along the M4 to the Slough Jets for another season in the EPIHL. Two seasons with the Wightlink Raiders in the ENIHL saw him prosper as Assistant Captain of the Playoff winning squad. In 76 games over those two seasons for the Raiders he racked up an impressive 78 goals and 65 assists. With over 275 EPIHL and 135 ENIHL games already played, Alex has an impressive amount of experience under his belt.

Finishing last season as the Bracknell Bees leading British points and goals scorer and also in the top ten British points scorers in the EPIHL last campaign, with an impressive twenty goals and twenty five assists, shows just what a potent threat in front of net the forward brings to the Bees line-up.

The Bracknell Bees Head Coach Scott Spearing commented on the signing of Barker:
“When I took on the job this year “ABar” was one of the guys I knew I wanted to get back as he had a great season last year. He’s a key player for the Bees both on and off the ice. Last year he played with a lot of confidence and proved himself to be a great goal scorer. I hope that we can continue to build on that in the forthcoming season.“

As in previous seasons we are happy to announce that Alex’s jerseys will be available as part of our 2017-18 Own & Loan Jersey scheme.

The Light or Dark jerseys are both available and complete details of the scheme and the jersey designs will be released soon but if you are interested in participating in this great opportunity then please email us at with the details of the jersey you are interested in.

All shirts are sold on a first come, first served basis and the process is that you “own” the jersey and “loan” it back to the player for the season to wear. The jersey will then be presented to the owner at the end of the season at a time and date to be arranged.
