‘Killer’ Keeley Upping His Game

BILLINGHAM STARS continue to build their 2015-2016 squad from the back with the return of defenseman Tom Keeley for his second season in a Stars shirt.

20-year-old Keeley joined the Stars following a four-year stint in North America, scoring the first of his six goals in his debut game against Solway in the Cup. Tom brought speed and physicality to the Billingham blue line, not least when he gave Sharks Ross Murray a two-handed hiding, much to the fans delight, at the Forum in February.

Tom is looking forward to pulling on a Stars jersey once more, and is looking to improve both on and off the ice:

“I enjoyed my first season playing for the Stars, I really liked being involved in the team both on and off the ice. I also like the atmosphere the fans bring to the rink, it makes the game more interesting and fun. I didn’t have as good a season as I would have liked last season but this year will be different – I am going to be more dedicated and work on my personal game on the ice with the team and also off the ice in the gym and show the team what I have to offer. This season I want to score a couple more goals than I did the previous season and also lift my physical game by hitting more. It’s going to be a tough league this year but I believe we have what it takes as a team to come together and show people that we still have more to give and we are not just runners up.

The leagues I played in Canada and America were a bit different to this league so when I came back I didn’t know what to expect. Although the leagues I played in had a faster game play, it was still only classed as junior hockey – which is until the player turns 21 – which means the players don’t have the experience that they do in this league. This makes a real difference in the flow of the game.”
