19-year-old Nertney capped a fine season last time out by taking the U20s Best Forward and Coaches Player of the Year trophies at Presentation Night. A versatile forward with the ability to revert to defence if necessary, Nertney has developed his game massively since his senior Stars debut, scoring two goals in his first full season.

Nertney is delighted to be back and is determined to progress once more:

“Winning the Under-20s League last season was an outstanding achievement for the team and coaches. I gained a lot of experience from the league and a lot of confidence, also it helped me focus on my game a lot more. The win against Guildford was a really tough game and it helped us – knowing that we can compete against the toughest teams in the country put us all on a high going into the Nationals.

I was really happy with my performance and I exceeded my own targets for the season. Coming away with Best Forward and Coaches Player of the Year for the U20s just made it an even better season – I was really shocked when I got the awards. I have my targets set for next season and they’re slightly bigger than last season – I hope that we make it to the Nationals again and come away with the win. This season I need to carry on working on my overall game. I will try and play how I played last year, but push myself that little further every game on and off the ice. I just need to work harder in training and work on the little things.

Missing out on the playoffs last year with the seniors was a bit of a misfortune. This season we just need to push, work harder and pick up where we finished at the back end of last season where we performed at our best. We need to carry that into the upcoming season and hopefully make that crucial playoff spot.”
