Jeffrey Szwez Looks Onwards Following Dundee Defeat

Stena Line Belfast Giants forward Jeffrey Szwez was in a reflective mood following his team’s 3-2 overtime loss against the Dundee Stars at the Odyssey Arena. The Stars win snapped the Giants nine game winning streak for the Belfast organisation’s first loss since 3rd December 2013 and Giants Man of the Match Szwez was proud of the team’s achievements over the past four weeks, ”I think we can take a lot of pride in winning all of our games in the last few weeks,” said Szwez,  ”I know the guys are pretty upset about it (the loss) right now and we got an important point by tieing up the game with 15 seconds to go.”

The Giants still sit top of the Elite League, 14 points clear of the 2nd placed Sheffield Steelers after building up the lead over the Christmas and New Year period, ”We’ve really put our nose to the grindstone over the holidays to make sure we get those points that we needed. We’ve built an expectation of winning and guys are a mixture of exhausted and gutted about the loss – though now we have a few rest days then we move on.”

The big games keep on coming for the Belfast Giants as they clash with the Cardiff Devils twice next weekend, Saturday in Belfast at the Odyssey Arena, face-off 7pm and then on Sunday in Cardiff, ”There’s no rest for the weary. We’re in a pretty good position and we’ll take stock of that and look and talk about some things. Then we’ll go back to work and try to start a new streak.”

Tickets are now available for Saturday’s home game against the Cardiff Devils and can be purchased from the Odyssey Arena Box Office in person, by calling (028) 9073 9074 or online at this link.
