Jeff Mason Excited For The Games Ahead

Stena Line Belfast Giants Defenceman Jeff Mason is currently in his 4th season with the organisation. To date, Mason has posted three goals and 11 assists, good for 14 points in 32 games played, however perhaps his most important contribution is that to the team’s defensive record. The Giants have conceded the least amount of goals of any Elite League team and the team’s defence have played a huge part in help the team to a 17 point lead at the top of the table.

On Saturday the Giants defeated title rivals, the Steelers 3-1 in Sheffield, an important result for the team in what was a thrilling game for all watching on in Sheffield and around the UK on TV thanks to Premier Sports. ”It was good, it was exciting,” said Mason. “Whenever you play the Steelers its a big game. Obviously everyone’s trying to knock us off and it was real good game and a real good win.”

With the Giants holding such an impressive lead at the Elite League summit, the team are under no illusions as to how important and difficult the games have now become with every other team trying to knock the Belfast side off their perch, ”We haven’t really changed what we’ve been doing all year, it’s been working for us and we’re in a great position now. Everyone’s coming after us and so we know every is going to be ready to play us.”

Games do not come much tougher than they do in the next few days for the Giants as they travel to face the Braehead Clan on Saturday followed by a vital Challenge Cup Semi-Final at home against the Cardiff Devils on Tuesday, ”There is a lot coming up and the boys are excited. We’ve just been going about our business all year and it’s really shown in how consistent we’ve been.”
