Jason Ikin returns for 2017/18
At only 19 years old Jason has decided to join the Oxford City Stars for what will be his third year playing in a yellow shirt. Australian born Ikin first joined the Stars in 2015 after playing out of Bracknell as a junior. He is a solid defensive player with a habit of being in the right place at the right time.
As well as playing for the Oxford City Stars senior team, Ikin has also been part of the Stars under 20s team over the past 2 seasons, for which he was alternate captain last year.
Ikin said “I’m really looking forward to putting on a Stars jersey again this coming season. It will be exciting to see what the Directors have in store for the Club, its supporters and players throughout the year. The closer ties between the Stars and the Junior club will be very positive in the ongoing development of the younger players. Playing for both the Stars and the u20s last season was really helpful in developing my hockey and working on key areas of my game. It will be great to repay that debt and help develop the younger players to keep the link between the Stars and the Junior club strong. Also I am excited about working with Darryl and the coaching team this year. I worked with Darryl in the u20s last year and he really knows a lot about hockey, which I believe will help me to continue to improve my game. I can’t wait for the season to start”.
Daryl Morvan, Head of Hockey Operations, said “I had the chance to work with Ikes last year at u20’s and his eagerness to develop along with his strong character meant that I was able to put him into a leadership role and I think in turn this helped his development with the Stars. Jason knows he’s still a developing player but he’s passionate, hard-working and one of the most coachable players I’ve worked with. I think he’s going to continue to be an asset to the team and I’m really pleased to get his signed for the coming season.”
