Jack’s the lad as the Raiders eye play-offs
Alan Blyth’s team let their lead slip to lose out to the Hornets 4-3 in the final five minutes last Saturday, after the game young defenceman Jack Cooper was awarded January player of the month.
“I feel honoured and proud that whoever chooses or votes for it would chose me as player of the month,â€
“The team really helped me to get player of the month, by having more experienced guys on the team, they have helped me make the right decisions on the ice and helped my game improve over these last few months.â€
Defenceman Cooper joined the club earlier on in the season from Division two neighbours Haringey, but now he can not wait for more action in the gold and blue, but expects a tough game this Saturday.
“I look forward to every game, but especially this one as I’ve never played on the island in this league and playing on there is always hard so it will be an interesting game to see how our team will compete now.â€
With the Raiders pushing for the play-offs, the player of the month feels the team has a great chance to push on with six games left.
“The last six games I think we have a real chance of taking points off of teams and hopefully be on a good run for the play-offs and go into the playoffs with a lot of confidence behind us and cause some real upsets.
“The recent games that we have played have been great we are really starting to gel together and become one solid team to play.â€
The former Romford junior and South East conference player feels encouraged by the support the team is getting from the fans this season, with a double decker bus travelling to the Isle of Wight on Saturday.
“It feels great to play on a team where the fans are so loyal and committed to try their best to come to every game,â€
“This weekend shows there commitment to this team as loads of them are travelling to the island with us as well, so I thank them for their continued support.â€
The trip to the island could be the last for the Raiders, with Planet Ice announcing the closure of the Ryde rink.
