It was a “skate” success

Skate With The WildOn Sunday evening the Widnes Wild held their first ever ‘Skate with the Players’ event at Silver Blades Ice Rink Widnes. Over one hundred people turned up to have a skate with their favourite players from the 2015/16 season.

Following the skate, potential Wild players from around the north of England travelled to Widnes to be put through their paces by the Widnes Wild coaching staff. Some players had travelled from as far as Nottingham, Hull and Billingham to test themselves against other hopefuls for a spot on the 2016/17 Wild roster. Coach Mckenzie was delighted with the turn-out;

“It’s great to see so many players come to Widnes to try out for our senior team. We don’t have many spots left to fill as the recruitment process has been excellent so far, so Sunday’s trial has given me a few headaches. These events are not only for the recruitment side of things but also to try and give our loyal fans some sort of ‘hockey fix’ in the summer months. We know how much they miss the hockey season so it is important for us to give back.”

The Widnes Wild also announced the return of fan favourite Ken Armstrong on Monday evening. The Wild #9 will return as player-coach for the 16/17 campaign joining Mckenzie, Richard Charles, Callum Fraine, Mark Gillingham and GM John Anderson on the coaching staff.
