Hughes taking time out
Blackburn Hawks #58 Richard Hughes has made the decision to take some time out to focus on his young family.
At the end of last season Rick and partner Lesley had their first child, Jaxon. As was evident in the photo’s and video circulating from the trophy presentation match, Rick is a proud father and is already acclimatising the new generation to the cold temperatures of an ice rink!
Coach Daniel MacKriel said: “Rick’s decision to not come back to the Hawks is a totally understandable one. He has been a great servant to the club and when asked Rick has played in numerous positions, lines and situations and done so for the good of the team without question.
To lose Rick is disappointing as he is a real team guy and a good hockey player. He is great in the dressing room and all the players and supporters will miss him for sure but as we all know this sport has serious constraints on personal life and Rick has been open and honest with me since taking over, which is all I can ask for as a coach.
We all wish him the best of luck and the door will be always open to him.”
We wish Richard all the best with his family but we’re sure he’ll still be found around the rink watching the team!
