Hopkins signs for another season
Last season saw Hopkins carry the ‘A’ on his jersey as he filled the role of alternate captain alongside Dax Hedges. With his reputation of being one of the best British defence players in the NIHL, Hopkins made quite an impression at Oxpens Road. Despite his position being defence however, Hopkins is also quite the offensive player. Last season he iced 27 times for the Stars, and in that time scored 13 goals and made 15 assists – a total of 28 points across the season, which put him 3rd overall for the Stars last season.
When speaking about joining Oxford for a second season, Hopkins said “I’m really happy to re-join the Stars. Everything about the organisation is hugely professional, and it was a fun club to be a part of last season. The work the Directors have put in and their vision for the Oxford City Stars future is impressive, so it’s great to be part of a club that is going about things the right way.”
“The league has seen a lot of disruption over the summer but there are a lot of positives to take from our new position in NIHL2, most notably the closer link with the junior club. Working with and developing the Stars of the future is massively important for the stability of the club in years to come, and I look forward to helping the younger players improve and transition to senior hockey.”
“We have a great bunch of guys in the locker room who all work hard for each other, so I’m really looking forward to getting started and skating back out in front of our awesome army of fans”.
Oxford’s newly appointed Head Coach Kenny Redmond added “I’m delighted to have Dom back for next season. He has had a good career and played all over the UK, an offensive style defenceman who contributes a lot of points. Dom has a very positive attitude, and he will be a great role model for the younger guys training up with the Stars. I’m looking forward to working with him and he will be continuing in his role as assistant captain for the season ahead.“
