There was disappointment in Braehead Arena as Braehead Clan were edged out on penalty shots by Nottingham Panthers following a 3-3 draw.

Clan got the perfect start as Ben Davies showed great tenacity to set up Thomas Nesbitt, who finished at the near post to open the scoring.

Then seconds later, an error led to Stefan Meyer testing Panthers’ back-up goalie Dan Green, who made the save, but Matt Keith tucked away the rebound.

Nathan McIver was on the scoresheet early in the second when he touched in Nesbitt’s shot from wide left as it flew past Green as the Clan opened an imposing lead.

David Ling pulled one back when his shot from the inside left managed to get through a sea of bodies and sneak in at Chris Holt’s back post.

Then Matthew Myers took advantage as he brought Corey Neilson’s men to within a goal by the end of the second period.

Panthers managed to draw level in the third as Ling set up David Clarke with a one-time finish to tie the game at 3-3.

The game went to overtime then penalty shots and after Juraj Kolnik scored for Panthers, Ben Davies couldn’t do the same at the other end and Nottingham took both points.
