Chris Bruton’s winner with three minutes to go gave Braehead Clan a massive comeback win against Manchester Storm.
The Clan were 3-1 down going into the final period, but managed to turn the game around to seal – 4-3 victory over the Elite League new boys.
Matt Haywood got the opener for the home team after Storm goalie Zane Kalemba could prevent Alex Leavitt’s shot from escaping in front of him.
But the visitors levelled against the run of play as Matt Paton turned the puck past Clan netminder Chris Holt after Matt Folkes shot from the inside right.
Omar Pacha’s side took the lead early in the second, as the player-coach set up Grant Toulmin who got the final touch.
Holt made an excellent save to deny Matt Sisca, who broke through after Clan lost possession on the red line.
But the boost it should have gave was quickly deflated when Matt Caria finished off Toulmin’s shot to put Manchester 3-1 up after two periods.
Stefan Meyer reduced the arrears to one 12 seconds into the third period as he forced the puck past Kalemba.
Then Scott Pitt’s laser into the top right corner of the Storm wrenched the Clan level with 12 minutes left to play.
Bruton’s winner after being set up by Meyer managed to tip the scale in Braehead’s favour, who have won four of their last five now.
