Three goals in the third period made it comfortable in the end as Braehead Clan defeated Edinburgh Capitals 5-1 in the Elite League.

Nate Fleming’s bobbled shot got the better of Clan goalie Chris Holt as the Capitals took an early lead in the opening five minutes.

However the home side pulled level when Stefan Meyer sent a diagonal shot flying past Caps Carsen Chubak.

A more scrappy second period was played out as both teams never really looked to be on top form, with chances going begging.

But Marcus Gotz provided a real highlight with a terrific solo goal, coming in from the left and firing into the net on the turn.

Then Alex Leavitt got a tip on Zach Sullivan’s shot into the Caps zone and the home side had opened a two-goal cushion early in the third period.

Chris Bruton then secured the points when he snuck the puck past Chubak at his near post to clinch the points for the Clan.

Lee Esders applied the icing on the cake when he tapped in from Bari McKenzie’s low pass across the crease late on.
