Hawks sign Latvian Netminder Niks Trapans

The Blackburn Hawks Team Management are delighted to be able to announce that we have secured the services of Latvian Netminder Niks Trapans. The Nineteen year old is currently back in Riga and will join up with the squad soon. Niks comes to the Hawks from NIHL South side Haringey Racers and will be studying at Sheffield’s Hallam University when he moves back to the UK.

Niks had the following to say on his move:

“I am very excited for the upcoming season and very happy to be signing with the Blackburn Hawks! Having worked with Coach Darlow through Goaltender Guru I can’t wait to get on the ice and get the new season started! It’s a big opportunity with a great team & I look forward to showcasing my skills on behalf of the Hawks organisation.”

Matt ( Darlow ) himself stated:

“I met Niks a short time ago at a goaltending camp I was running & I’m glad I did as he is the most athletic & technically sound goalie I’ve ever worked with at this age. If I say the words ‘young Dmitri Zimozdra’ then people will understand how impressed I am with this guy. Niks is currently back in Latvia on a 6 week high performance camp with the Latvian national team goaltenders Edgars Masalskis & Ervins Mustokovs among many other star Latvian players & will arrive back in the UK in late August having been on ice 5 days a week. Please welcome to the Blackburn Hawks someone who I believe will be a star of the future with the correct guidance & a goalie who has all the tools to help us greatly alongside Stu at Blackburn this season. The Blackburn Hawks are pleased to announce Niks Trapans to the 2016-17 roster.”
