HAWKS IN SAFE HANDS AS TRAPS RETURNS
Promising Young Net-minder re-signs for Blackburn Hawks
Player Coach Steve Duncombe has secured the services of promising young net-minder Niks Trapans for the 2018-19 campaign.
The Latvian born 20 year old stands 5ft 11inches tall and weighs in at 176lbs returns for his third season with the Hawks after a very good season between the pipes last year.
Although born outside of the UK, Niks can play without the need for an ITC thanks to his youth trained years with the Haringey Hounds U16 and Lee Valley Lions U16 and U18 teams.
Niks started in 2009-10 at Haringey Hounds but did not manage an appearance. Moving on to the Lee Valley Lions the following season, he iced 40 times in 3 seasons before splitting 2014-15 between the Haringay Racers in NIHL2 and Lee Valley Lions U18 team. He also made an appearance in Latvia’s International U18 team in an International Junior tournament.
2015-16 was his last season down south with the Racers before joining Blackburn Hawks in 2016-17. So far he has made 73 appearances for the Hawks in NIHL competitions with a save percentage of 0.88.
On signing for the Hawks Niks commented, “I am very excited to be back with the team for another year. I am looking forward to be playing with the boys from last season as well as the new signings Duncs has been making. With Duncs and Neilly playing big roles in the team and the rest of the organisation, I believe that next season we have great opportunity for improvement, as well as success. Not to forget, with the unbelievable fan base that we have, comes great support, and it’s always great to show what we can do!”
Steve Duncombe said on confirming that Niks was back for a further campaign, “Traps is a great young Goalie who really showed me what he could do last season. He went from strength to strength, so I can’t wait to see how he performs for the Hawks this year”.
