Halbert to patrol Blaze blue-line

Coventry Blaze are pleased to announce the signing of 6’0″ defenceman Nathanael Halbert for the 2021/22 Elite League season.

The 25-year-old will make his home debut for the Blaze against the Manchester Storm on Wednesday 15th September in a pre-season encounter (7.30pm) before competitive action begins on the 18th/19th September with back-to-back games against Guildford Flames in the Challenge Cup.

The Blaze will travel to Guildford on the 18th before returning home on Sunday 19th September with a 5.30pm face-off.

Halbert, born in Nottingham, arrives in Coventry on the back of a stint in the AHL with Laval Rocket after graduating from McGill University (USports).

The stay-at-home blue-liner had one assist in seven games at the AHL level. In 68 games with McGill, Halbert tallied 19 points (three goals, 16 assists) in 68 regular season games and 10 points (one goal, nine assists) in 10 playoff appearances.

Halbert spent three seasons in the QMJHL, two as associate Captain of Blainville-Boisbriand Armada, before joining the Sherbrooke Phoenix. In the Q, he had 63 points (15 goals, 48 assists). In 2015, Halbert was invited to the Pittsburgh Penguins’ rookie camp.

Head Coach Danny Stewart said, “Halbert is a big addition for our back-end. He’s very good defensively and another guy that moves well and can make plays going forward. “He had a good stint after university in Laval, and although an injury restricted his game time this past year, he spent the whole time up in Laval and is now at full health and ready to get going with us in the new season.”
