Guildford Flames 1-2 Bracknell Bees
The Bees headed to Guildford looking to avenge a heavy defeat the last time the two sides met and did just that in front of a packed crowd at the Spectrum.
Things however didn’t get off to the best of starts for the Bees when after just over three minutes into the game Jozef Kohut converted an early Flames powerplay to put the hosts in front.  However only sixteen seconds later Tony Redmond leveled the scores for the Bees, assisted by Matt Foord and James Galazzi. Late on in the period both sides had powerplay opportunities but the penalty kill units held strong.
The second period, although scoreless, was full of changes at both ends of the ice requiring both netminders to be on the top of their game. It was a rough and feisty twenty minutes too with Branislav Kvetan receiving a 2+10 High Sticks penalty just under halfway through the period. Chris Wiggins for the Bees was playing a disruptive game and drew the referee’s attention receiving a couple of roughing penalties but these seemed to rile the Flames and upset their game.
Into the third period with the scores still locked at one a piece and all to play for. The Bees held their discipline and heavily outshot the home team and got the break through when Lukas Smital, assisted Ollie Bronnimann and Shaun Thompson put the Bees ahead with just over twelve minutes left in the third period.
Late in the final period Branislav Kvetan picked up a second major penalty for checking to the head with a little over six minutes remaining in the game and was ejected.  The Flames killed off a couple of late powerplay chances for the Bees but it was all for naught as the Bees pressed hard to hold on and see out the win – sealing the two points for the Bees on the road.
The man of the match awards went to Tom Annetts in the Bees net and James Hadfield in the Flames net for two impressive performances.
