Great Scott! Craig Scott joins Lightning

The Smith Recycling sponsored Milton Keynes Lightning are delighted to confirm that Anglo-Canadian forward Craig Scott has committed to the team for 2016-17. Craig joins the Lightning after a stellar season with Peterborough Phantoms.

The Scott name is held in high regard in MK ice hockey circles thanks Craig Scottto Craig’s father, Paddy, who played for Lightning’s predecessors, MK Kings, for seven seasons.

Craig, 24, began playing hockey at just four years old. After four years with the MK Junior Kings, he moved to Canada with his family and continued to develop his game with Selkirk and Winnipeg in the MJHL then with the University of Manitoba Bisons.

During his first season in the EPL with Phantoms, Craig certainly made his mark – he became Peterborough’s top assist and points scorer. His stats also meant that he was the equal highest assist-scoring British player in the league and second highest points scoring British player.

Last weekend Craig was named in the Ice Hockey Journalists UK 2nd All Star Team.

“I’m very excited to be coming to Milton Keynes, being part of this organization and having a successful season,” he commented. “My family and I are both thrilled that I’m returning to where I started playing hockey as a kid.

“I had a blast in Peterborough this past season and enjoyed my time there, I want say a huge thanks to my great teammates, to Slava and the rest of the Phantoms organisation for everything they have done for me. I’m looking forward to meeting the MKL players, fans and the rest of the Lightning family. Speaking with Pete Russell, it sounds like the club has a very bright future and I’m very excited to be a part of it. Here’s to a great 2016/17 season!”

Head Coach and Director of Hockey Pete Russell said, “I’m absolutely delighted Craig has agreed to join us in MK. He has good speed, good hockey sense and works hard in the tough areas. For me, he was a key addition to our core group here.

“When I spoke to Craig, he had nothing but positive things to say about our current team and the club. I really felt good speaking to him and everything felt right. He is a great guy. All the reports on him were positive and I am delighted he chose us, as he wasn’t short of offers. But he has a real desire to be part of everything we are doing and building here in MK. That’s huge for me!

“I’m looking forward to working with him and having him as part of our group and I know our great fan base will be delighted with this addition.”
