Gough and Munroe Return for Ziedins Testimonial
Next weekends Maris Ziedins Testimonial game will see the return of two of the treble winning teams fans favourites with the announcement that Andy Munroe and Brent Gough have both agreed to play in the game.
Munroe joined the Phantoms in their early days, joining from the BNL’s Hull Thunder at the start of the 2004/5 season. A solid stay at home D-Man, Munroe was a key member of the Phantoms for the next 5 seasons winning the League title, EPL Cup and Play-offs on several occasions. Upon leaving the Phantoms Munroe joined the Romford Raiders then after a season and a half at the Slough Jets he made the move across to the Bracknell Bee’s where he remained until the end of the current 2012-13 season.
Gough joined the Phantoms at the start of the 2006-7 after a few years n the NCAA captaining Merimack College. Along with his old colleague Taras Foremsky, the Gough and Foremsky pairing tore up the league forming a partnership that hasn’t been seen since. With 116 points in his debut season and 100 points in 2008-9, Gough totalled over 350 points in his 4 seasons in the UK. After announcing that he was leaving the club at the end of the 2009-10 season Gough moved back to Canada to take up an Assistant Coaching position with the Westside Warriors of the BCHL.
Maris Ziedins testimonial takes place on Saturday 13th April at 4.15pm at the Peterborough Arena. Admission is Â£10 for adults and Â£5 for Children/Concession. The game will see the current DALROD sponsored Peterborough Phantoms take on the Treble Winning Phantoms and marks the retirement of Maris Ziedins from the British game.
