A second period Stephen Dixon goal made the difference as Cardiff Devils edged to a 1-0 win over Glasgow Clan.
While there were no goals in the first period, there were a few chances that got the crowd on their feet.
Early efforts from Vaclav Stupka and Zack Fitzgerald needed the gloved hand of Cardiff goalie Ben Bowns to keep the scoreline blank from the visitors’ end.
The Devils saw one of their chances zip agonisingly across the crease and past the gaping goal, before Clan broke up the other end where Craig Peacock was denied by Bowns.
Andrew Lord’s side went close in the second as a snapshot from Layne Ulmer forced Clan goalie Joel Rumpel into a reactive save.
But the visitors finally got the breakthrough as Stephen Dixon forced the puck over the line after Charles Linglet’s pass caused some problems in the defensive line.
Glasgow almost hit back a few minutes from the end of the period when Gerard Hanson found Travis Ehrhardt with a reverse pass, but the chance went wide at Bowns’ right hand post.
Bowns remained unbeaten in his goal as Josh Gratton’s effort was deflected over as he pounced on the edge of the crease.
But despite their best efforts, the visitors held on to move to within two points of the three teams at the top of the table, leave Clan to rue what might have been.
