Giants Take On The Scottish Invasion This Weekend

This Friday and Saturday the Stena Line Belfast Giants come up against a Scottish double as the Dundee Stars and the Braehead Clan come to the Odyssey Arena, Belfast. Both games face-off at 7pm and will provide the Giants with a stern test following last weekend’s first defeat of the Elite League season at home to the Coventry Blaze.

On Friday, the Dundee Stars come to town as the in-form Elite League team having won all of their four matches to date against Braehead, Coventry, Nottingham & on Sunday against Sheffield and they currently sit top of the Elite League standings. Saturday sees the Braehead Clan come to the Odyssey Arena as the Giants take on their nearest rivals in the Elite League

Head Coach Paul Adey spoke ahead of this weekends’ games:

“Dundee have gotten off to a great start this season. Friday’s game is an exciting prospect for our fans as they come to Belfast unbeaten this season – it’s going to be a great game of hockey – there is no question about that. We know full well where Dundee lie in the standings and we need to catch them up.”

The Stars, led by player/coach and former Giant Jeff Hutchins had this to say ahead of his return to Belfast:

“I’m ecstatic at the fact all the lines have been stepping up and taking responsibility and we’re not depending on one group of guys like we did last season. Having four scorers in Sunday’s win over the Sheffield Steelers was pleasing and it shows the depth we have at the moment.”

“I told the guys after the game that we can’t take anything for granted, sit back and start smoking the cigars.  We’re only four games in and there’s plenty still to do. There’s going to be periods and nights where things aren’t going to go our way and we have to take the same approach and work as hard as we have in the four games so far.

“That said, I can’t speak highly enough about the guy’s work ethic.  We may not have enough superstars, but we have players guys are working together and winning together.”

Tickets are still available for both games this weekend and can be purchased online via Ticketmaster or from the Odyssey Arena Box Office in person or by calling (028) 9073 9074.
