Giants Take First Place With Friday Fife Win

The Stena Line Belfast Giants moved into first place in the Elite League standings with one game to play thanks to Friday’s 7-0 win over the Fife Flyers.

A hat-trick from Kyle Baun plus strikes from Kevin Raine, Lewis Hook, Pat Dwyer and Murphy gave the Giants an empathic home win. The Giants are tied on points with Cardiff and sit first in the league through regulation games won – the Devils have played one game less.

Next up for the Giants is Saturday vs Dundee Stars on Saturday 30th March – face-off 7pm at The SSE Arena, Belfast. The Devils face the Milton Keynes Lightning at home on Saturday before facing the Coventry Blaze away on Sunday.

Tyler Beskorowany backstopped the Giants to Friday’s win against the Flyers with the home side missing Andrew Dickson, Dustin Johner and Guillaume Gelinas.

Baun Opens Scoring

The Giants got off to the best possible start – taking the lead after only 43 seconds. Kendall McFaull’s shot could only be parried by Fife netminder Owen and Kyle Baun was on hand to slot hime.

Raine Extends Lead

Kevin Raine doubled the hosts advantage at 21:54 with a cool finish when one-on-one with Shane Owen, assisted by Chris Higgins and Colin Shields.

Belfast Secures Home Win

Kyle Baun doubled his tally on the night at 44:23 with a powerplay goal, assisted by Jordan Smotherman and Colin Shields.

Lewis Hook extended the Giants lead further 32 seconds later with a composed strike on a breakaway.

Pat Dwyer netted the Giants third of the period at 52:24 with Darcy Murphy picking out the forward with time and space at the back post to slot home.

Darcy Murphy, fresh from breaking the Giants goal scoring record of 45 in one season, netted his 47th of the season at 55:50 on the powerplay, assisted by David Rutherford.

Kyle Baun made it a hat-trick at 56:39 with a nice finish, assisted by Jordan Smotherman and David Rutherford.
