Giants Scottish Pre-Season Campaign This Weekend

This weekend sees the 2015/16 Stena Line Belfast Giants take to the ice for the first time with two pre-season games in Scotland. First up is Saturday against the Fife Flyers, face-off 7:15pm, followed by the Dundee Stars on Sunday, face-off 4pm – neither game will be covered by a live stream with the Giants Twitter & Facebook channels providing regular updates throughout both games.

Derrick Walser will lead his Giants into the weekend, carrying a roster of 20 players that will include Belfast born players Stephen Eccles as well as Thomas McKinnon who have both been skating with the team during the first week of practice. Mitch Ganzak and Mike Radja are due to arrive in Belfast next week and so they will miss the pre-season games.

Adam Keefe, Captain and Player/Assistant Coach of the Stena Line Belfast Giants is excited to return to the ice this weekend alongside a team that contains a lot of new faces:

“This is a fresh start for this team – new coach, new faces. It feels like we’ve hit the re-set button and after a year like last season, that’s something we wanted to do and start from scratch.”

“You have to prove yourself again and thats a good thing. Guys have been going at top speed and nobody will be able to take nights off.”

“We’ve put together a roster that is solid and can compete with the other 5/6 teams that will compete for the title. It’s going to be a dogfight right to the very end and thats something we’re looking forward to – the challenge.”
