Giants Lose Out To Resilient Capitals
The Stena Line Belfast Giants were on the wrong end of a 6-4 scoreline at the Odyssey Arena on Saturday evening as the visiting Edinburgh Capitals added a much needed 2 points to their season tally as they aim to secure playoff qualification.
The Giants took the lead in the opening period with new signing Nathan Robinson finding the net on the powerplay to the delight of the 6,000 strong crowd. The Capitals got back on level terms minutes later with top scorer Rene Jarolin finding the net before man of the match Daniel Naslund gave the visitors the lead with his first of the evening, scored on the powerplay.
Naslund was on the score sheet again just minutes into the second period as he slotted past Chubak on a feed from Player Coach Richard Hartmann. Former Caps player Mark Garside netted for the Giants just after the midway point in the game to bring the scoreline within one, but a powerplay opportunity for Edinburgh just minutes later seen Greg Collins reinstate the Capitals two goal advantage.
The Giants came out chasing the game in the final period outshining the Capitals 12:6 with Robinson again finding the back of the net, bagging his second of the evening.
Richard Hartmann scored what would turn out to be the game winner for his team at 58:42 with Rene Jarlolin adding an empty netter exactly a minute later to make the score 6-3.
In consolation Mark Garside grabbed his second goal of the evening and 7th of the season with just 1 second remaining on the clock.
