Giants Give Devils A Hellish Night In Wales
The Stena Line Belfast Giants pulled off an inspiring performance on the road in Cardiff to claim 2 Elite League points following a 4-1 victory. Goals from Kevin Saurette, Jeffrey Szwez, Robby Sandrock and Calvin Elfring ensured the Giants made it two wins in two games played in Cardiff this season.
The opening exchanges saw both sides go close on a number of occasions but it was the visitors who took the lead with a strike at 9.46 from Kevin Saurette. Just as it seemed that goal would split the teams at the first break Devils tied it up with 46 seconds remaining as Mac Faulkner fired home.
The second period saw Giants the sharper in front of goal as they built up a two-goal lead. The go-ahead counter came from Jeff Szwez at 22.57 and then on a 5 on 3 powerplay Robby Sandrock shot past Dan LaCosta for 3-1 at 28.23.
That’s the way it remained right up until the dying embers of the contest and with LaCosta having been pulled for the extra skater it was Calvin Elfring who scored shorthanded into the empty net at 58.53 to end the scoring and give Paul Adey’s Giants an impressive road victory.
