Giants Give All Star Performance Against Dundee

The Stena Line Belfast Giants moved five points clear at the top of the Elite League and won Challenge Cup Group A with a dominating win against the Dundee Stars on the road in Scotland. Goals from Jeffrey Szwez, Kevin Phillips, Craig Peacock and Chris Higgins gave the Giants full points ahead of Tuesday’s vital game against the Nottingham Panthers. Belfast will now take on the Stingrays in the Challenge Cup Quarter Finals, following Hull’s fourth place finish in Group B.

The opening goal came from Jeffery Swez at 3.06 and then Kevin Phillips got his second of the season at 4.03. The Giants added a third as Craig Peacock was on hand to net at 10.32.

The Stars pulled one back early in the second period as Nico Sacchetti was on target at 21.40. The visitors cancelled this out with a goal from Chris Higgins at 30.54 to restore their three goal lead.

Despite a number of chances being created by both teams in the third period neither team could find their way to goal. And those three first period goals were enough to help the Giants to take the points home with them.
