Gee & Ratcliffe Back With an ‘A’

RTL Wild Logo Sq.fwThe RTL Widnes Wild are delighted to announce the return of young forward Tom Ratcliffe and defenceman Chris Gee.

Both players will return to the Wild as Assistant captains to Shaun Dippnall as the coaching staff believe that Gee and Ratcliffe showed the characteristics and leadership qualities that the team was lacking last season. Ratcliffe re-joined the Wild mid-way through last season after a short spell in America playing for Charlotte Rush. In just 9 games Tom recorded 3 goals and 3 assists, Coach Mckenzie will be looking for a little more return from Ratcliffe in the new campaign;

“When Tom returned from the states, he was like a completely different person. He was well mannered, polite and full of enthusiasm to pull on the Widnes Wild jersey. He showed us how much he cares about the club and although he is just 20 years old, Tom lead by example and really got stuck in. He was a natural choice for assistant captain. Next season I will be looking for a few more points and some secondary scoring from Tom, he is capable of it so I think we both agree that it is not impossible”.

Chris Gee was voted the Most Improved Player by his peers at the End of Season Awards Evening, a worthy winner after playing a season of defence when his natural position was forward. Chris notched up 3 goals and 7 assists in 25 games with just 24 penalty minutes taken all season. Mckenzie wants Gee to be a little meaner this season;

“For me, Chris was excellent all season. He was definitely one of our most committed and consistent players that is always listening and looking to improve. He keeps himself in great shape and we are looking for Chris to take more of a leadership role within the team and try to encourage the guys to take care of their bodies and prepare for games a little better than they have before. There were quite a few contenders to take over as assistant captain, but the coaching team are confident we made the right decision in picking Tom and Chris.”

Tom will continue to wear his #40 jersey and Chris will also continue to wear his #46 jersey for the 2016/17 season. If you would like to Own & Loan Tom or Chris’ Home or Away jersey for just £75, please contact; scott.mckenzie@widneswild.co.uk.
