Game Preview: Billingham v Spartans

Spartans face a difficult task this weekend with another trip up North, this time to face Billingham Stars at The Forum on Sunday 8th December, facing off at 6.30pm.

At the time of writing it is unclear who will actually be available for Spartans who will look to build on a positive display last weekend in Whitley Bay despite losing the match. It was a gritty performance, the type they are going to have to put in if they are to come away with any points. It’s arguable that it’s the right time for us to be playing Billingham whose form as been a little inconsistent of late but the Stars will see this weekend as the perfect opportunity to get their title challenge back on track with a game in Altrincham on Saturday against Minotaurs before facing Spartans on Sunday. It doesn’t really matter what form Billingham are in when you face them on home ice as they are always very strong and make it difficult for visiting teams to settle. Throw in a noisy expectant crowd and you are in for a tough time as we have found to our cost in the past but we have had our moments against Billingham which if worked upon with the team we have this season might see us spring a surprise. The lads will travel up in confident mood of pulling off a good performance, one that will hopefully see us return back to Sheffield with the points. No doubts Stars will see things very differently which could set things up for an interesting and hopefully entertaining game.

For all supporters attending this game, that’s Spartans too, don’t forget your soft toy for the Stars Annual Teddy Bear Toss. This is for local sick children who will be in hospital during the Christmas period; receiving their gifts from the Stars players when they visit to spread a little cheer and Christmas spirit. Last season’s Teddy Toss was a huge success and It would be nice for the supporters of both Spartans & Stars to embrace this event once again. So please bring a teddy or other soft toy, wrapped in plastic to the game to support a worthwhile and charitable cause. Face off for Sunday’s game is 6.30pm

Spartans next home game is Saturday 21st December v Whitley Warriors with a 4.30pm face off.
