Fwd: Flames edged in overtime to end Pre-Christmas schedule

Chris Carrozzi allowed just 1 regulation goal, but a Fife Flyers winner by Ian Young just seconds into 3 on 3 overtime helped lift the Scottish team to an extra table point during a 2-1 win on Spectrum ice.  The stellar goaltending show at both ends began with 37 minutes of shutout hockey with Flyers netminder Andy Iles and Carrozzi turning aside all comers until the first goal finally came on a rebound tap in when Kruise Reddick slipped it across the line to give Spectrum’s team a lead to start the 3rd. Early in the final frame, the Flyers replied and pulled even through Young on a converted 2 on 1 during a shorthanded stretch that completed the regulation scoring and set up his eventual opportunity for the winner.

“That was a game that either team could have won, and tonight we just have to settle for 1 point,” said Head Coach Paul Dixon.
“Fife had some travel problems so they came into the building having faced a lot of adversity so you really have to give them credit for the way they responded to a tough situation.”
“In the 1st period, they storming and to be honest we could have been behind by a couple at that stage but Chris really kept us in it.”
“We got better as the game went on and later in the game, especially for some stretches in the 3rd, we could have had several goals, and could have won it then.”
“Scoring for both teams was not easy tonight, and it is disappointing to come up a little short, but that is how it goes sometimes.  We will take a little break here, enjoy Christmas and then see what we can do at Milton Keynes on Boxing Day.”
